Top Things To Do In Key West In August 2024

Summer is peaking here in Key West, and although the crowds are slimming, there’s no shortage of events. Lobsters, music, art, eating and without a doubt, drinking, are on the lineup this month.  In no particular order here are our top 8 things to do in Key West this August:

1. Feast on our Finger-lickin’ LobsterFest

Lobster season is finally open again on August 6th! Ok, so it’s only been 4 months, but it feels like ages since we’ve indulged on the Caribbean tails. What better way to celebrate than the 26th Annual LobsterFest, a 4 day festival from August 10th-13th, where you’ll find Lobster cooked every way imaginable. Head to Duval for the street fair and get lobster wasted!

2. Create Memories on the Craft Cocktail Crawl

Cool off with some crisp and crafty libations at our less crowded, iconic mom-and-pop establishments on the island. Duval is fun, but our local guides lead you off the tourist driven path and instead into hidden gems. Our 3 hour tour combines cocktails, historical and cultural tidbits, and of course delicious nibbles! Book online or call us at 305-570-2010

3. If you can’t stand the “Tropical Heat”, get outta Key West!

You know we do things differently down here, and in the HEAT of summer, it’s time to strip down and party poolside during this week of naughty, wet and wild fun known at “Tropical Heat.” Think this is right in your swimming lane? Then head to the events page and be sure to snag a wrist band.

4. Lose Yourself to the Music

Come see Dirty Heads performing at Key West Amphitheater in Key West, FL with support from Sublime with Rome and Little Stranger. August 9, tickets sold here!

5. Cool off with a Gelato Eating Contest

It’s hot down here and there’s nothing quite like ice cold gelato to help beat the heat! If you think you’re a pro, head on over to Duetto Pizza and Gelato at 540 Greene Street to enter the All You Can Eat Gelato Contest. There will be child and adult categories with prizes available for both winners. Check here for more details.  Saturday, August 12 @ 4pm

6. Get Slap “Yappy” at a Puppy Pool Party

We’re big fans of our canine companions here in Key West. With many establishments being pet friendly you can see dogs enjoying everything from Happy Hour to Sunset Sails. Now they’ll get treated to their own “Yappy Hour”, hosted by The Marker Hotel. Their pool is open to local friendly swimming, there will be a “Puparita” drink special by Hiatus Tequila, raffles, doggy pools and cooling mats to keep our furry friends cool in the August heat.  The best part is this party will benefit the animals of the Florida Keys SPCA. You can contact [email protected] or check here for more details. FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 2023 AT 5 PM – 7 PM

7. Recall Your Retro at TRIVIA NIGHT!

Sit inside in the blissful air conditioning and nurture your nostalgia at The Retro Room. They’ll be hosting 80’s & 90’s Trivia Night on Sunday, August 6, 2023 AT 7 PM – 9 PM. Teams of up to 6 compete for rad prizes! The Retro Room is located at 126 Simonton St.

8. Brewfest Kick Off Pool Party

Looking for way to beat the heat, while also throwing it back to the 90’s? (We’re sensing a theme here this August) then look no further than the kick off to this year’s Brewfest hosted by the Havana Cabana Hotel @ 3420 North Roosevelt Blvd. They’re bringing us a ’90s poolside party at the largest pool in Key West. With food & drink specials, free admission, and the fact that it’s open to the public, this party is sure to be “the bomb”! Check here for more details. Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5 PM – 9 PM
